Your remarkable ability to channel our collective efforts towards necessary outcomes is second-to-none. The dedication you show to your work reflects your profound commitment to the mission of the Institute and to the Office of the President. We stand in awe of your ability to apply structure and order to what might otherwise trend towards chaos. Resourceful and creative, you are understandably confident that you can lead us to new and better ways to do what we do. In supporting the Presidential Search Committee, your flawless discretion and unfailing dedication were invaluable. Calm under every pressure, you are thoughtful, caring and witty in all the right places.  It is truly a pleasure to have you on our team.

Your days are filled with last-minute requests to rescue clients whose stress may register anywhere on the dial from frustration to frenzy.  You work miracles with your technical skills, your attention to detail and your resolve. In a matter of minutes, you can defuse a client’s ticking time bomb. After matter-of-factly saving the day, you return to the job at hand, unaware of your hero status. The evident pride that you take in your work — whether the project is big or small — and your insistence on quality make you a model of service to the Institute. In our most difficult moments of technological crisis, you are our “Superman.” Because uneven margins, fuzzy logos, blurry photos, and inconsistent fonts are simply not permitted on your watch, you are the faithful shepherd of good print.

We admire your gift for appearing poised and gracious — even while secretly recovering from Singapore-scale jet lag — whether hosting the President of the United States, greeting foreign dignitaries or dancing with an eight-foot beaver. You teach us, by your example, the art of delivering gracefully on the highest standards, every time, with every detail perfect, period. We treasure your insight and intelligence, your insistence on seeing the data, your ability to cut through the forest of distraction to the bright sunlight of clarity and focus. You are the definition of a quick study — and the alarming time stamps on your emails tell us that you are right at home at MIT. Because you celebrate and embody MIT’s core values, you help us see that even here — tapping at our keyboards or cooking up another Institute event — we, too, are serving the nation and the world. Through the convergence of your many talents, you have mastered the science of leadership, engineered an extraordinary team — and manufactured bright new possibilities for MIT. In its electrifying amperage, your energy sustains us. Your devotion to service is as American as apple pie. You are, in a word, mighty.
